The Brief
We worked with this customer right from the architectural planning stages to help them create an open plan kitchen with separate pantry for their remodeled bungalow, with a mid-century aesthetic. They wanted the kitchen to be the heart of the home, with a focus on being sociable but functional and wanted the adjacent pantry to house the more practical elements, in order to keep the kitchen clutter free.
The Solution
We designed a large island with seating all along one side to give the kitchen a really sociable feel. Open shelving and sleek wall units were was designed with a walnut trim to coordinate with other aspects of the customers mid-century style home, and all appliances were fully integrated to enable them to hide away as much as possible. A Quooker boiling water tap was also included to avoid the need for a kettle and keep the work surfaces clutter free.
The pantry was used to house the practical items such as the microwave, toaster, freezer, bread maker and second overflow fridge, as well as an additional oven, to enable the kitchen to be kept sleek and tidy.
Key Design Features
The kitchen was spray finished in a colour match to ‘Cley’ by Fenwick & Tilbrook - a lovely soft sage green - and the units had a grained finish complemented the general aesthetic of the house which included lots of wood and natural textures.
Top Tips
If you have the space, a separate pantry is a great way to keep general paraphernalia out of an open plan kitchen/dining/living area. This is a luxury though and, if you don’t have space for a separate room, we have lots of storage solutions that can be incorporated to maximize storage and keep your kitchen clutter free!
