Are you planning a kitchen renovation? Here are our top tips to make sure everything runs smoothly before you start.
Open Plan living has never been more popular and it shows no signs of slowing down. A combined kitchen/diner/family room has become the heart of the home. A space where everyone can be together; cooking, working, chatting, eating, entertaining it really has become a busy, communal space for all the family.
It’s no surprise then that when people move house one of the first projects on their to do list is a new kitchen!
Make a Wish List
Before you start planning your kitchen take a good look at your current one; what works, what doesn’t, what you like, what you don’t. Make a list of all the things you would like in your new kitchen. This should be your wish list; include appliances; from essentials like ovens and fridges to wine chillers and warming drawers. Think about where and how you want to store your pots and pans, larder items, your collection of herbs and spices and even your waste and recycling bins.
Take advice
Work with Professionals! Start with a good kitchen designer, manufacturer/supplier and installer they will have great industry knowledge and advice which is essential for a smooth kitchen renovation. They will be able to offer ideas and suggestions which you may not have thought about, the earlier you engage with a kitchen designer the more chance there is of getting your dream kitchen spot on especially if building work is needed.
Measure Up and Measure Up Again
The golden rule ‘measure twice, cut once’ is one to live by during a kitchen project.
With Fine Finish this isn’t an issue, as part of our design process we will come out to your home and measure up for you, we also have our own manufacturing facility and team of fitters. However, if you are doing it your self take time and care to make sure that you get this right.
Your style
The fun part – take time to research, look at different types of kitchen, the designs, shapes, scale, colours and worktops available. Considering details such as cupboard doors, colours, taps and worktops will help when you start visiting showrooms. Instagram is a great for inspiration. Click here to follow our account.
Think about how you will manage during the renovation
Being without a kitchen is going to be disruptive – planning head will help. Set up a make shift area, a microwave, kettle, a table to act as a make shift worksurface.
