The Brief
To create a utility / boot room with space for free standing washing machine and dryer, storage for coats and shoes and a dedicated ‘hidden’ clothes drying space as well as ample storage and boxing in of plant for the heating system.
After finding the ‘perfect’ utility room on Pinterest, the customer also specified that pink was an absolute must, to make the daily chores more fun!
The Solution
We designed an area opposite the back door for a bench seat with shoe storage below and coat pegs above – perfect for kids and adults alike after a country dog walk. To the side is some handy cupboard storage and then a clever extra deep cupboard with bi-folding doors, which houses both wall-mounted and pull-down drying rails and a plug-in dehumidifier for drying clothes. This can be opened up in full or in part for drying and airing clothes, or closed off to create a tidy space. Opposite this area is a sink, large worktop space and washing machine/clothes dryer and at the rear is yet more storage and housing for the heating system.
Key Design Features
The drying cupboard was designed to accommodate standard airing rails and a ‘Sheila’ pully maid hanging clothes airer. The bi-folding doors allow the cupboard to be fully opened up when clothes are damp without taking up too much space in the room, but can be easily pulled closed or just left slightly ajar to hide away the laundry if you’re expecting guests!
Top Tips
Why not be a little braver in the utility room and go for a stand-out colour to put a smile on your face when you’re hanging up the socks to dry!
